Free Music?

Check this out. Apparently you can download free music from the likes of Bloc Party and the Cold War Kids. The catch? There are embedded advertisements on the beginning of each track...good concept but I'm not sure if it will catch on, I'd rather just buy it without the ads.

Weekender

Big Red Sox - Padres series this weekend. That's where I'll be, taking a brief hiatus from some concerts and hating on Street Scene. If you're not into some good old fashioned baseball then you got nothing. Nothing decent worth seeing this weekend unless you're into Michael McDonald. I would suggest the Game, but its not free so I say skip that and wait for a real rapper to come through....

Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem

Just announced that Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem will be touring together in the fall. The first date to go on sale is at Red Rocks but there is also one at the Hollywood Bowl up in LA on September 20th, presale tickets go on sale June 20th...on a side note looks like Arcade Fire is a frontrunner for surprise headliner of Street Scene 2007, there is a god....

StreetLame 2007: Update

Here are some posts regarding Street Scene from SanDiegoish , the UT, and CityBeat. Rumors floating around that CWK, Smashing Pumpkins, and NIN could be added. I say hold out for Arcade Fire, Wu-Tang, or Bjork, until then....

White Stripes/Cold War Kids

The upcoming White Stripes and Cold War Kids tour has added a San Diego date at Viejas Bayside. Go here for some info, or here for presale tickets. This show is a must because the White Stripes always put on a good show and CWK is that band from LA everyone is talking about, get on it...

StreetLame 2007

You may or may not already know by now but the Streetscene lineup for 2007 came out yesterday and I'm not gonna lie, its lame. First, the venue has moved to the Del Mar Fairgrounds stripping the concert of any and all streets. Second, the lineup eerily resembles the same ones from 2006, 2005, and 2004. The Killers, Social Distortion, Louis XIV, et. al. are all repeat performers and there is nothing that truly stands out. Some of the highlights are Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Editors, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Paolo Nutini, Fair to Midland, and Mute Math. However, even a collection of bands such as these is not anything earth shattering and definitely not worth $120 for a two day pass (tickets here) in which some of the acts will overlap and you won't be able to see everyone. If you've been staying up on the SD music scene you've probably already seen most of the bands at this fiasco anyways. However, if you haven't I would suggest a one day pass to see the Arctic Monkeys and Muse if possible. Its a far cry from Tribe Called Quest back in 2004 and it would be better for Streetscene to either scale it back to its original concept of a street fair downtown or step up and make it more Coachella/Bonnaroo-esque. Especially when you look at the lineups for these and the standard fare in European festivals (Roskilde, Glastonbury, Reading, Leeds, T in the Park, etc.) Streetscene 2007 is a disappointment all around.

The point is Streetscene is a mediocre festival at above average prices, to the concert organizers I say if you want to charge that type of money step it up and make the festival worthwhile.

Unsubstantiated rumors that Busdriver is playing MCASD (Museum of Cont Art) on July 21st. Not sure if this is at the La Jolla or Downtown location, or even if it is true...check it out here
